Removal of Moles and Birthmarks

Moles, or nevi, are common to everyone. Most moles are harmless and can be left alone.

When a mole behaves differently, changes size, shape or color, bleeds, itches or makes an appearance when a person is over 20, it is best to seek medical advice. Your dermatologist can reassure you as to its nature through physical exam or a microscopic examination of a tissue sample. If a mole does need to come off or a patient wants to remove it for cosmetic purposes, it can easily be removed surgically with local anesthetic.

Vascular birthmarks (hemangiomas and port wine stains) can be treated with lasers. No one needs to feel permanently disfigured. Excellent results can now be achieved with fewer treatments and minimal discomfort.
